Planning for two weeks of zero services - electricity, water, sewer, phone, cable for internet.
Non-consumables
- NOAA weather radio
- portable 6500 watt generator
- (3) plastic 5 gallon gas cans, filled for generator use
- portable stove and butane
- manual can opener
- batteries: AA, AAA, C, D, 6-volt
- disposable products: trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, bowls & cups, plastic utensils
- 2 gallons bleach
Consumables
- 48 gallons water (2-3 gallons per person per day + pet(s))
- instant non-fat dry milk; cans of evaporated milk; quarts of Parmalat shelf-stabilized milk
- various nutritious beverages in a can (Boost, Ensure, Slimfast)
- various energy bars, granola bars, etc
- 2 lbs crackers
- 2 boxes cereal
- 2 lbs rice
- 1 jar peanut butter
- 7 cans pasta (ie: Chef Boyardee)
- 7 cans tuna, chicken, roast beef, “potted meats”
- 7 cans varied veggies
- 7 cans varied beans (refried, black, kidney)
- 1 bag cat food
- 14 cans cat food
Home Preparation Checklist
- Charge rechargeable batteries
- Install hurricane shutters, including dryer vent & laundry room door if Cat 3 or higher
- Relocate all exterior furniture, potted plants, etc, to garage or office/bathroom
- Raise everything possible to counter height (6-7′ above sea level)
- Drain pool 1-2 ft; super-chlorinate; turn off power at pool breaker box; wrap pump in trash bags & seal with duct tape or disconnect completely & store elsewhere
- Turn off all switches and unplug all electrical devices
- Turn off electric power at breaker box and at meter
- Turn off water at curb
- Turn off sewer at curb
